Dr. Cannon Promoted to Professor at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine.
Dr. Cannon received a letter from Northwestern University's Vice Dean of Academic Affairs stating that he has been promoted to contributed service Professor of Otolarnygology, Division of Dental Surgery, Feinberg School of Medicine. The letter states that his "promotion to the rank of professor reflects your many academic accomplishments and national recognition for these accomplishments and is reserved for our most distinguished faculty". Dr. Cannon has been extensively involved in education and research his entire career.

Certification in Botox and Dermal Fillers
Besides being a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, and a Fellow of the Academy of Dental Materials, Dr. Cannon is also certified in Invisalign and the Pinhole Gum Regeneration technique (used to treat root exposure and gum recession). Recently, Dr. Cannon additionally became certified in the use of Botox and Dermal fillers, not because of the cosmetic value, although Botox is so successful in treating "gummy" smiles, but mainly for the many therapeutic uses. Many of our patients suffer from TMJ symptoms and what has been pre-supposed as "migraines". Botox has been recognized by the Food and Drug Administration since 2010 as being beneficial in treating these problems. Please don't hesitate to consult with Dr. Cannon if you have any questions.

Dr. Durbin Explains Two Phase Orthodontic Treatment
Many parents ask when the ideal time for orthodontic treatment to commence is. We recommend a first visit with the orthodontist at 7 years old, although this does not mean that treatment will start at that time. The decision on treatment timing depends on the problem that is presented, as well as other factors such as dental development, chronologic age, and growth pattern. Most patients are still treated with the more “traditional” one stage of treatment which usually occurs at 12-14 years old and lasts 18-24 months. In some cases, the problems presented are much more severe and require early intervention for correction. Typical 2 stage cases include those with significant esthetic or structural issues, functional issues, or severe crowding. These cases are better treated by doing a first phase of treatment at 8-9 years old followed by a second stage at 13-14 years old for fine tuning. The treatment option for your child is best determined by Dr. Durbin after a thorough examination and consultation outlining the options available. Please feel free to schedule a complimentary orthodontic examination with Dr. Durbin to discuss the options as they relate to your children.

Staying Dentally Safe this summer
Many dental injuries occur during the summer months, as young people are out "having fun". Please have a fun and safe summer!
